Content, Community & Search Strategist

As a Content, Community & Search Strategist, we expect you to produce excellent content marketing work that ranks well on search engines, gets cited by LLMs, earns upvotes on forums, and, most importantly, converts. Your content will live on clients’ websites, Reddit, in journalists’ articles, and across the rest of the Internet. You work alongside your colleagues and on individual projects while continuing to grow your ability to handle more complex accounts. This position requires strong copywriting skills, community instincts, SEO knowledge, and a love of telling a good story.

You sit above our Coordinators and Associates but below our Directors and Leadership team. You’ll have guidance from the Senior Director of Content, while taking ownership of larger accounts and mentoring less experienced members of the team.

We are a smaller business that puts people first — which means we take the time to review each application that comes in ourselves, not with an AI processor. (Yes, a human chose the em dash in the previous sentence.) We ask that you approach this application in kind, writing your answers yourself and limiting the use of AI so we get to know the real you.

Any offers to interview or of employment will come from emails ending in @onlineoptimism.com. Don’t ever click a link or provide private information to anyone saying they are from Online Optimism if their message does not come from this email domain.

Job Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

We expect the job to be around:

  • 35% Community Content: Copywriting on forums and community management, focusing on Reddit.
  • 30% Website Content & Search/LLM Optimization: blog posts, service pages, location pages, FAQs, and similar content optimized for search engines and AI engines
  • 15% Link-Building & Citation Earning
  • 10% Client Communication
  • 5% Reporting
  • 5% Always Optimizing to improve our agency’s processes and results

We focus on ethical, above-the-board content marketing. Any forum work is transparent about which brand is posting it. We believe AI can be used to make our humans more efficient, not replace them. We understand that search and (what was once called) SEO are a constantly changing world, but Google, forums, and LLMs end up with the same result: bringing users whichever content they believe will be most engaging. It’s your job to make that content and get it to our target audiences.

This role is strictly normal business hours. We do not handle community forum work after hours or on weekends. While we have physical offices in New Orleans and New York City, employees may work from any state, as long as they follow Eastern or Central time zones.

A breakdown of your expected job duties is below:

A Bit About the Community Work

Right now, this mostly means Reddit. Of all social platforms in 2026, Reddit has the most opportunity. Brands are dipping their toes in the water, and Reddit’s leadership post-IPO has taken steps to become more mainstream. We’re very conscious of the fact that Reddit’s community has been…less than friendly to corporate presence in the past. Our agency believes brands can become good community members by participating on the platform as Redditors first, and the brand second. We abide by Reddit’s TOS — no upvotes or botnets here. We’re confident that by providing good content, our agency (and clients) will succeed.

35% Community Content

  • Oversee Reddit strategy for a number of Online Optimism’s accounts, collaborating with Account Executives who handle the majority of client communication.
  • Produce content that performs well on forums, search engines and LLMs.
  • Create engaging content that earns upvotes and minimizes complaints about brand interactions.
  • Manage subreddits, including moderation work and growth strategies (all clients are SFW, so moderation tasks are simple).
  • Handle DMs and chats sent to our branded accounts.
  • Edit community content submitted by other members of our team to match client voice.
  • Use Reddit Pro, RedReach, Sprout Social, Profound, Otterly.ai, and similar tools to inform strategy and find relevant conversations.

30% Website Content & Search Optimization

  • Oversee the search and content management of 4–7 of Online Optimism’s SEO or AEO accounts.
  • Craft engaging copy in a variety of formats for clients, including blogs, FAQs, website content, press releases, case studies, white papers, and long-form webpages.
  • Use SEMrush, Google Search Console, SurferSEO, Profound, Otterly.AI, and other digital tools to perform keyword and prompt research and guide long-term client SEO and AEO success.
  • Write about complex topics in a manner that target audiences can understand and evaluate, with the ability to shift tone or writing style quickly throughout your day.
  • Implement SEO and AEO best practices, including keyword targeting, internal linking, schema markup, page load speed, mobile friendliness, URL structure, page metadata, and crawler accessibility.
  • Use your SEO and AEO knowledge to assist leadership in improving Online Optimism’s own efforts.
  • Edit the work of other members of the Content department and provide SEO and AEO recommendations.
  • Apply local SEO strategies to help businesses become more visible in local searches.

15% Link-Building & Citation Earning

  • Provide useful content to other websites on behalf of clients, working to earn citations from journalists that build links and authority.
  • Review newsletters including HARO, SOS, Qwoted, and Featured to identify relevant stories for clients.
  • Perform link research on competitors to find opportunities for clients to be mentioned off-site.
  • Coordinate off-site link building, including outreach and brainstorming creative ideas that will generate links over time.

10% Client Communication

  • Collaborate with our Account Executives to share your work with clients, explaining your process and choices.
  • Accept feedback gracefully, and adapt your work based on critiques and client needs.
  • Partner with our other departments (Digital Ads, Social Media, Web Dev/Design) to make sure your accounts have a consistent, cohesive strategy and message across all their channels.

5% Reporting

  • Present reporting to clients and advise leadership on upsell opportunities or the risk of client churn.
  • Use tools including Google’s Looker Studio, Google Analytics 4, Supermetrics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Profound, and Otterly.AI.
  • Help mentor Coordinators, Associates and Specialists (our paid interns) on how to read and explain their own reporting.

5% Always Optimizing

  • Suggest ideas, explore new tools, and take initiative to improve Online Optimism’s content, community, and search work.
  • Be excited to shift your job description as AI and other tools continue to reshape the world of SEO, AEO, AIO, GEO, and all the other acronyms that describe it in 2026 and beyond.

Who are we looking for?

If you’re looking for a place to grow where your work (and you) will be appreciated and rewarded, you’ll find a home at Online Optimism.

You must have at least:

  • Experience posting on Reddit. (See, you always knew that would pay off!)
  • Knowledge of the platform’s intricacies that goes beyond posting and upvoting. You should know how to create a Subreddit, the difference between mods and admins, what flair is, and be familiar with Reddit Pro features.
  • A working understanding of SEO, as well as AEO and GEO. You don’t need to be an expert in everything, but you should be comfortable with keyword research, meta descriptions, on-site optimization, and how content gets surfaced (or cited) by AI engines.
  • Strong copywriting instincts, with the ability to craft engaging content across formats and quickly shift tone for different clients and audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the confidence to walk a client through your strategy and reasoning.
  • A strong ability to brush off criticism from the Internet. As much as we work on creating a great presence for our brands, haters gonna hate. Being great at shrugging it off and going onto the next post is key to succeeding in this role.
  • A willingness to help less experienced Optimists grow. Strategists at our agency support our Coordinators, Associates and Specialists through editing, feedback, and the occasional Slack pep talk.

We understand there aren’t many folks with years of experience in Reddit marketing professionally, and we’re less concerned with finding that in your background. Strong writers, community builders, and folks who have experience with SEO, AEO, or content marketing campaigns tend to do well in this role.

The strongest candidates will have:

  • 2-5 years of creating content marketing, SEO content, community content, or social media in a professional setting for businesses or organizations.
  • A portfolio showcasing previous content marketing, copywriting, or digital marketing work, ideally including writing samples that performed well on a search engine, on Reddit, or in another forum.
  • A past (or current) job at a marketing agency working across a variety of clients.
  • Previous experience communicating about marketing work with clients or stakeholders, including presenting reporting and explaining strategy choices.
  • Previous experience editing or mentoring other writers.
  • A degree in English, marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience using SEO tools, particularly SEMrush or Google Search Console.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools including Google Analytics 4 and Looker Studio.
  • Experience with AEO tools like Profound or Otterly.AI (curiosity is welcome, but hands-on use is a plus at this level).
  • Familiarity with external Reddit tools like Gummysearch or RedReach.
  • Experience with link-building, digital PR, or earning citations through HARO, Qwoted, Featured, or similar services.
  • A love of Reddit and its community. If you remember Victoria, or came to Reddit from Digg, you’ve been here for a while. Time to get compensated.

Our Application Process

  1. First, you should review all of the information on this page to confirm this job interests you!
  2. You apply. Our team excitedly opens up your application.
  3. Strong candidates will be contacted via email for two purposes:
    • We will provide your final compensation offer. (It’s not included on this page since it’s dependent on your experience.) We do this at the beginning of the interview process, rather than negotiate at the end, to provide for a more equitable compensation structure among our team.
    • We will request a time that you’d like to be sent your assignment. We have a 3 hour assignment to complete to help us better assess your skills. The assignment is all for either fake companies, or non-clients. You are compensated with a $75 gift card in exchange for your time completing the assignment.
  4. The top 2-3 candidates on the assignment will be emailed to schedule a final recorded 60 minute interview with your direct Supervisor Senior Director of Content Lauren, and VP of People, Meara.
  5. After meeting all the candidates, we will make a hiring decision.
  6. We make the top applicant an offer (which will be the same on that was previously emailed to you,) and provide you with 2–3 days to make a decision. You (hopefully) accept and become an Optimist!

We work hard to create a supportive, optimistic environment. This includes:

  • Our office hours are 9–5, Monday–Friday. You will be able to have flexible work hours including 8–4 and 10–6.
  • We have an in-place policy that we don’t require employees to check their email while outside the office. We believe strongly in maintaining a work/life balance.
  • Our “You Do You” remote work rule means that you get to choose whether you come into our beautiful office or work from home each day.

We also like to think we have a pretty great office culture. We have the usual fun stuff, and then go far above and beyond what you might be expecting:

  • Casual dress code
  • Top of the line computers to work on.
  • We offer free web hosting to any Optimist.

If, however, you don’t think it is after 60 days, no problem, we’ll offer you a buyout package. This means that we’ll offboard you over the next week (with insurance til the end of the current month), pay you a $2,000 severance package (after receiving our equipment back,) and wish you the best in your career somewhere else.
