Job Responsibilities
We expect the job to be around:
65% Community content management, including writing, posting, and engaging on Reddit and other online forums on behalf of clients
30% Search & content management, including blog creation, on-site optimizations, and other work that improves a website’s presence on search
5% Always Optimizing — work going toward improving the department over time
A Bit About the “Community” Work:
Right now, this mostly means Reddit — of all social platforms in 2026, Reddit has the most potential. Brands are dipping their toes in the water, and their leadership post-IPO has taken significant steps to become more mainstream. We’re very conscious of the fact that Reddit’s community has been…less than friendly to corporate presence in the past. Our agency believes that brands can become good community members by participating on the platform as Redditors first, and the brand second. We abide by Reddit’s TOS – no upvotes or botnets here. We’re confident that by providing good content that actually makes Reddit more interesting to scroll, our agency (and clients) will succeed. Or at the very least, make it a more fun front page of the Internet.
Where You’ll Work
Online Optimism is an award winning creative digital agency founded in 2012 recognized for our commitment to staff and company culture. We’ve been named a Best Place to Work in New Orleans 8 times, as well as a 2024 Inc. Best Workplace and a 2023 Worklife Most Outstanding Employer. Our benefits include insurance, retirement plans, plentiful PTO + unlimited time off for physical or mental health, and annual compensation increases.
We offer a hybrid work environment where you can choose to work in-office at our headquarters in New Orleans or at home every day. We are also happy to provide you with a shared desk at a coworking space in your city if you’d like. Please note that full-time Optimists must be based in the United States.
Who are we looking for?
If you’re looking for a place to grow where your work (and you) will be appreciated and rewarded, you’ll find a home at Online Optimism.
You must have at least:
- Experience posting on Reddit. (See, you always knew that would pay off!)
- Knowledge of the platform’s intricacies that goes beyond posting and upvoting. You should know how to create a Subreddit, the difference between mods & admins, what flair is, and be familiar with their Reddit Pro features.
- A foundational understanding of SEO — you don’t need to be an expert, but you should be comfortable with concepts like keyword research, meta descriptions, and on-site optimization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft engaging content across formats and quickly shift tone for different clients and audiences.
- A strong ability to brush off criticism from the Internet. As much as we work on creating a great presence for our brands, haters gonna hate. Being great at shrugging it off and going onto the next post is key to succeeding in this role.
We understand that there aren’t many folks with years of experience in Reddit marketing professionally, and we’re less concerned with finding that in your background. Strong writers, community builders, and SEO-curious content folks from a variety of backgrounds tend to do well in this role.
The strongest candidates will have:
- 1–3 years of creating content marketing, SEO content, or social media in a professional setting for businesses or organizations.
- A portfolio showcasing previous content marketing, copywriting, or digital marketing work.
- A past (or current) job at a marketing agency working across a variety of clients.
- Previous experience communicating about marketing work with clients or stakeholders.
- A degree in English, marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, or a related field.
- Experience using SEO tools, particularly SEMrush or Google Search Console.
- Familiarity with analytics tools including Google Analytics 4 and Looker Studio.
- Experience with or curiosity about AEO tools like Profound or Otterly.AI.
- Familiarity with external Reddit tools like Gummysearch or RedReach.
- A love of Reddit and its community. If you remember Victoria, or came to Reddit from Digg, you’ve been here for a while. Time to get compensated.
Our Application Process
- First, you should review all of the information on this page to confirm this job interests you!
- You apply. Our team excitedly opens up your application.
- Strong candidates will be contacted via email for an initial interview. This email will also include your final compensation offer. (It’s not included on this page since it’s dependent on your experience.) We do this at the beginning of the interview process, rather than negotiate at the end, to provide for a more equitable compensation structure among our team.
- You will do a recorded 20–45 minute conversation with our VP of People, Meara, followed by a three-hour timed assignment. This assignment is for fake clients, and you’re provided with a $75 Visa gift card as compensation.
- We’ll review all of the interview notes and assignments and select the top 2–3 candidates.
- Those candidates will meet with Lauren (Senior Content Director) and other members of our team you’d be working closely with for a recorded final 15–45 minute interview. After meeting all the candidates, we will make a hiring decision.
- We make the top applicant an offer, and provide you with 2–3 days to make a decision. You (hopefully) accept and become an Optimist!
